Pinar Duygulu has received her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from Department of Computer Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey in 1996, 1998 and 2003 respectively. During her PhD, she was a visiting scholar at University of California at Berkeley under the supervision of Prof. David Forsyth. After being a post-doctoral researcher at Informadia Project at Carnegie Mellon University, she joined to Department of Computer Engineering at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. She is the co-director of RETINA Vision and Learning Group at Bilkent. Her current research interests include computer vision and multimedia data mining, specifically object, face and action recognition in large image and video collections and analysis of historical documents.

During summer 2004 she was a senior researcher in CLSP summer workshop at Johns Hopkins University on Joint Visual Text Modeling. For the period June 2009-Ausgust 2010 she served as the vice chair of the IAPR Technical Committee 12. She was the publicity co-chair for ICPR 2010.

She has co-authored over 50 refereed scientific journal and conference papers, and 5 book chapters. Her work has cited more than 3000 times, 820 of which are listed in ISI. Her h-index is 14. She received the best paper in Cognitive Vision award at European Conference on Computer Vision in 2002. She is the recipient of TUBITAK Career award.

She serves as a reviewer for scientific journals including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, International Journal of Computer Vision, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Multimedia, Pattern Recognition Letters, Signal Processing, Machine Vision and Applications Journal, International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, Multimedia Tools and Applications and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. She was a Program Comittee in major conferences in computer vision and multimedia, including International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV), International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), ACM International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR), and ACM SIGMM International Workshop on Multimedia Information Retrieval (MIR).She was an Area Chair in IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) in  2011 She also served as a referee in evaluating EU FP7 proposals and projects, and TUBITAK research and TEYDEB projects. She is a member of IEEE.

She is married to Erol Sahin and has two children
