Essay on experience reports of industrial software product line engineering cases

A number of real industrial cases are provided (chapter 21 textbook). The project groups will be (randomly) assigned  an industrial case. The case will be presented by one of the group members.

The allocation of the cases is based on alphabetical ordering of cases.

Report Evaluation Criteria

The report will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Layout: Title page, structure, style, references, numbering, captions etc.

• Description of the context - what kind of organization is considered? what are the developed products? what are the constraints, etc.?

• Motivation for adopting SPLE  - what was the business case for adopting a SPLE approach? What were the expected costs and benefits?

• Description of the adopted approach - What was the adopted SPLE approach?  Comparison with SPLE framework.

• Description of the evaluation - What was the result of applying SPLE in the organization? What is the impact on factors such as productivity, reuse, organization structure, software architecture, development strategy etc?

• Conclusion - Summary, discussion and lessons learned

The report should be around 10 pages long and adopt the LNCS Springer Conference Proceedings format.

The title page should include the group number, student names with student ids. In addition a summary sheet that shows the contribution of each student should be provided.

Presentation

A PowerPoint presentation of the report needs to be prepared and submitted to the instructor before the day of presentation. The presentation should be done by one student who will get an individual grade.

The presentation should not take more than 15 minutes, including questions.
