Securing The Internet of Mobile Things in the World of 5G and Beyond

The past decade has witnessed a major paradigm shift in computing with the developments in networking and mobile computing technologies, giving rise to an all-connected world with the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Mobile Things (IoMT), which involves the additional dimension of mobility, has made possible use cases including autonomous vehicles, networks of unmanned aerial vehicles, and smart transportation systems, among many others. Achieving security, reliability and energy-efficiency in the highly mobile context of IoMT under strict QoS requirements faces many challenges that require development of new communication architectures. In this talk we will discuss the roles of 5G and network virtualization technologies including software-defined networking and network slicing in making a high speed, reliable and secure IoMT possible. The security challenges faced specifically due to the mobile nature of things in IoMT will be discussed through case studies and next generation solution architectures will be elaborated on.
