Create your Moodle course...
(at Bilkent using AIRS)
Updated for Fall 2009/2010
Login to AIRS
Click the Moodle button next to the desired Bilkent course/section
Remove the check (tick) from the "Make course visible to students" option & click "Create Moodle Course"
Success! At this point the system has created the requested Moodle course-section.
It has also created a user account for you and made you the teacher of the course.
Click "Go to Moodle Course" (and/or create other courses-sections
first, if you wish).
Note: You shouldn't need to login again
(but if you do, use your Bilkent ID number
& password, as for AIRS).
Important: Do not do anything else until you have read
the following:
You should see your Moodle homepage, which lists your currently created Moodle courses.
Your next step depends on your particular situation,
- Single section Bilkent course: go ahead and
use the Moodle course that has been created for you.
- Multi-section Bilkent course: Since this is
a multi-section course, another "All Sections" Moodle
meta-course has been automatically created for you (or in
special cases e.g. FAE, the instructor's name will appear as
part of the meta-course name.) The individual sections will be
child-courses of this meta-course. Normally, you should use the
meta-course, not the child-course you have just created. It and other child-courses
should remain invisible/hidden to students, although you will
continue to see all of them (sorry!)
There are now several alternative scenarios:
- All sections of the Bilkent course
will share the same Moodle course: You
can go ahead and use the "All Sections" course
(note that you will still need to create the
other sections from AIRS.)
- Only a single subset of the Bilkent
sections will use Moodle: Example:
Bilkent course ABC101 has sections 01, 02, 03,
04 & 05, and only sections 01, 03 & 04 will use
Moodle this semester--sections 02 & 05 will not!
Please email
moodle@bilkent.edu.tr to have any unused
sections (child courses) removed from the "All
Sections" meta-course and to change the
meta-course name accordingly.
- Multiple subsets of the Bilkent
course-sections want independent Moodle courses:
Example: Bilkent course ABC101 has sections 01,
02, 03, 04 & 05. You may want one Moodle course
for sections 01, 02 & 05, and another Moodle
course for sections 03 & 04 (perhaps because
they are taught by different instructors). In
such cases, please email
moodle@bilkent.edu.tr to have additional
meta-courses created for each subset (be sure to
indicate which sections should be combined into
each subset.) Note that it is also possible to
include completely independent courses-sections;
for example, XYZ101 section 01, could be
combined with ABC101 sections 03 & 04, if
necessary.
You can now customise the course... or start real work!
Happy Moodling
