Storing Information (3)
Your computer may have many storage devices attached…
Each device has a single “root” folder
The root folder contains other files and folders.
Notes:
Computers usually have a mixture of storage devices attached to them, e.g. hard & floppy disks, cdrom’s and network drives.
We can refer to a file uniquely by specifying the device name (often a single letter, such as A, B, or C) followed by the folder (or list of folders starting from the root) that it is in, and finally the actual name of the file.
When opening or saving work in files you will need to be aware of this structure.
In Bilkent, each computer has a floppy disk drive (A), a local hard disk drive (C) and several network drives, Applications drives P & Q, and your personal folder (H.)
You should only save work to the floppy (A) and your folder (H.)
Caution: While BCC make every effort not to loose the contents of your H: folder, there is no guarantee! It is wish to have (multiple) copies on your own floppy disks too.
