In our research group, we have been working on developing a system for content-based retrieval of histopathological biopsy images. This system aims to search and retrieve biopsy images visually similar to a given biopsy image. Currently, we have over 5000 biopsy images obtained by a close collaboration with the Pathology Department of Hacettepe University School of Medicine. In your senior design project, you will design a tool to create a reference data set from these images for the evaluation of retrieval systems. This tool will be used by a pathologist for ground truthing the available images. Thus, it should easily be used by a non-computer scientist. Please come to see me for the details of the project.

We have an ongoing project on the development of image based anti-cancer drug screening. In this project, we have been working on cell images obtained by fluorescent and inverted microscopes. In your senior design project, you will design tools and implement systems for automated cell analyses. Your project focuses on one of the components of the entire system. NCI-60 Developmental therepeutics program (DTP), which is carried out by NCI/NIH, provides cancer screening results as bulk data. These data should be processed and analyzed in order to draw biologically meaningful conclusions. In your senior design project, yoll will implement a web-based system that enables to make such processing and analysis. Your system will also allow to make queries on the data. In the design of your system, you will consider the feedbacks/inputs of our biologist collaborators so that the implemented system is functional and useful. Please come to see me for the details.
