Student Presentations of Selected Papers
Each student will present an assigned paper. The student can present the paper
by writing to the whiteboard or by using slides. No matter which way is used, the student
should also prepare a document in Latex (i.e., a report) about the paper and bring that to
the class at his/her presentation day. The report should include the following:
- Lecture Notes part: This part will be a summary of the paper prepared in
such a manner that it can serve as an 1-hour "lecture notes" about the paper.
The student can write that part to the whiteboard and lecture with that. Other students will be studying these notes. Therefore
these notes should be prepared keeping this mind. It should aid to 1) the student while lecturing and
2) others while studying.
- Critics part: In this part the student will criticize and evaluate the paper.
The student will write about the good and bad parts of the paper; will write why the paper is useful and not useful, etc.
- New Research Issues part: In this part, the student will identify and write some further research
issues inspired from the paper. Those issues can be, for example, some ideas not tested in the paper,
some experiements not done in the paper, some algorithms or approaches not considered by the paper, etc.
This part will help others to find research problems (ideally). This part should be written keeping this in mind.
The report written about the paper will be emailed (including all tex sources) to the instructor at the day of the
presentation (besides the hardcopy given to the instructor).
About Reading Papers - Advice
About Writing of Reports
- Even the famous author E. Hemingway was reading his manuscripts 8 times before submitting
for review, therefore make sure you read your report several times before you submit.
