CS431 - Embedded Systems
Projects
As part of your embedded systems class project, you will design and
implement an embedded application. Detailed requirements for the
project will be announced later, but it will most likely involve the
C8051F340 development kits we have for lab experiments as well as
other necessary peripheral circuitry.
Progress:
- Project groups - Group members, group names and project topics for this semester.
Final demo schedule:
Resources:
- Guidelines for the final project report.
- Presentation guidelines for the intermediate design review.
- Format example for the detailed project proposal. Try not to exceed 7-8 pages.
- Format example for the preliminary project proposals. Do not exceed one single-sided A4 sheet for each preliminary proposal.
Logistics:
- Project groups will consist of 3 students. Your group must have
members from both CS and EE departments.
- You may use web resources for project ideas, implementation
guidelines and inspiration. However, you are not allowed to entirely
or partially copy an existing implementation from the web. Rest
assured that it will be very easy for us to detect such cases and
that will almost certainly cause all group members to fail this
course, in addition to disciplinary action taken by the department.
- All group members are expected to contribute equally to the
project. Throughout the term, we will have regular meetings with
individual group members to asses your involvement with the
project. Your project grade will be negatively affected if you are
found to remain uninvolved with the development.
Timeline:
Grading:
The final project grade for each student will be computed based on the
following formula:
final_grade = group_grade * individual_performance
The group grade is based on the quality of the project and is evaluated based on the following distribution:
- System design: %30
- Successful implementation: %55
- Project report: %15
The group grade will be multiplied with your individual
performance in the group, which will be assessed during the
intermediate design review and the final project interview during your
presentation. In other words, if you do not contribute to the project
as part of your group throughout the term, you will not get a good
grade.
Project ideas:
The ECE 476 web page in Cornell University gives a very good collection of project ideas for embedded systems of varying difficulties. Note that all of the projects found on those pages are done by groups just like you in one semester. So, you can know that they are all doable but not necessarily easy.
