In this talk, I will briefly discuss the vulnerabilities of HTML and the motivation for proposing XML standard. Next, bits and pieces about XML syntax will be outlined. The evolution of XML will be discussed along the lines of several relevant standards (DOM, SAX, XPointer, XQL, XSLT) and domain-specific markup languages, such as SMIL, MathML, RDF, etc. Finally, an illustrative case-study will be presented to show how XML can be used for data exchange in e-commerce applications.

DATE: April 01, 2003, Tuesday @ 16:40
PLACE: EA-409
