Evolution of Microprocessors

Microprocessors evolved tremendously in the past 20 years. The demand for faster processors pushed the designers for more aggressive techniques such as hyper pipelining, superscalar designs, out-of-order execution, multithreading and multi core architectures. In this talk, we'll take a snapshot at the evolution of microprocessors and describe the ideas behind aggressive design choices. We will also talk about the current trends and challenges in the microprocessor design and manufacturing.
