Recent developments in multimedia technology with the signi?cant growth of media resources introduced content-based copy detection (CBCD) as a new research ?eld alternative to the watermarking approach for identi?cation of video sequences. The detection of shots, as in many video indexing and retrieval applications, is the ?rst step of video analysis. Various shot-boundary detection algorithms have been proposed; however, no shot-boundary detection algorithm specialized for CBCD is found in the literature. The aim was to propose an automatic shot-boundary detection algorithm for the videos on which various transformations are applied. In contrast to most of the existing methods, fuzzy logic approach is utilized for extracting color histogram to detect shot boundaries. In addition to detecting shot-boundaries using fuzzy color histogram, a mask for still regions and the window of picture-in-picture transformation are extracted. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively detects shot boundaries with a small false alarm rate as compared to the state-of-the-art shot-boundary detection algorithms.
