In computer graphics, using multiple view rendering capable displays became very common in order to satisfy the demand for high quality, real-time rendering of 3D data by taking the advantage of binocular vision which is the most effective depth cue for human visual system. However, the requirement of repeating the rendering phase for each view in such displays constitutes an important problem in computer graphics. In this work, we propose a new perceptual approach to optimize the rendering complexity in stereoscopic displays by profiting from the binocular suppression mechanism of the human visual system. We are investigating how the perception is affected when the quality of one stimulus is decreased in a stereo pair. We have applied this approach on several common rendering methods so that we can obtain an inference about how different methods are affected perceptually, when one of the stimuli is in low quality. In order to verify the correctness of our approach, we have performed a user study, in which the results were quite promising in terms of the consistency with our expectations.
