Sketch-Based Modeling of Free-Form Objects using Pen Tablet

Bilkent UniversityThe traditional WIMP (Window, Icon, Menu, Pointer) user interface paradigm is both functional and powerful in various applications, including 3D modeling. But creating a complex model using this traditional approach is cumbersome for novice users. A recent trend is to support beginners with more direct and natural interfaces, which lead to sketch-based modeling techniques. We based our work on a sketch-based technique that uses Rotational Blending Surfaces for modeling a variety of free form 3D objects. We will further enhance this approach using pen tablet's pressure capabilities to define more complex blending surfaces and to give a better user interface for common translation tasks.
