Rapid developments in mobile smart-phone technology mean that the devices we now carry in our pockets also have great potential as educational tools. Learners can use their mobile phones to access online resources and to communicate with others “anytime, anywhere”. Although most schools will continue to rely on traditional classroom education, mobile (m-)learning is a model that can benefit both student and teacher by providing services regardless of user-context.

This talk reports on research that aims to take full advantage of today's technology to transform learning. After a brief introduction to the different forms learning may take, we present the design for a software application intended to supplement individual learning, in and out of schools. The prototype implementation will be explained and initial user experience results presented.
