Interactive Crowd Simulation on Mobile Devices for Augmented Reality Environments

Ateþ Akaydýn

A technique to do interactive crowd simulation on mobile devices within an Augmented Reality (AR) framework is proposed. The camera is localized within a prepared environment that includes a set of natural markers. A sensor fusion model is used to improve camera localization including a vision sensor and multiple inertial measurement sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers.

The users can interactively create paths for the agents to follow through touch inputs. For path planning, a two layer model is proposed. The model uses navigation mesh-based methods and user-specified paths interchangeably for global planning. Reciprocal Velocity Obstacled (RVO) method is employed for local collision avoidance.
