Enabling Event-Driven Intermittent Computing for Batteryless Sensors

Tiny batteryless sensors promise maintenance free operation for decades, providing swarm scale intelligence in applications from healthcare to building monitoring. These devices operate intermittently because of unpredictable, dynamic energy harvesting environments; and they fail when energy is scarce. Even though state-of-the-art programming techniques preserve forward progress of computation, they overlooked the event-driven and time-sensitive nature of sensing applications. In this talk, I will present a summary of our latest work on enabling event-driven programming for batteryless sensors. I will also provide an overview of new research opportunities in this emerging domain.

Bio: Kasm Sinan Yldrm is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Engineering, Ege University and a research affiliate with the Embedded Software Group at Delft University of Technology. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from Ege University in 2012. He was a visiting scholar at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova in 2013. Between 2015-2017, he was a post-doctoral researcher at Embedded Software Group, Delft University of Technology. His research interests are embedded systems and software, wireless sensor networks, operating systems and distributed algorithms.
