Dr. Nikola Popovic
INSAIT, Sofia University
Bio: Nikola Popovic is a research scientist at INSAIT, Sofia University, where he investigates spatial reasoning systems capable of understanding and acting in complex environments through advanced multi-modal reasoning. His research focuses on 3D scene understanding and digital twins, with the aim of integrating these modalities together with video streams into a unified vision–language system. His broader objective is to enable next-generation augmented assistance, robotics, and intelligent automation. Nikola completed his PhD at the Computer Vision Lab at ETH Zurich, where he worked on scene understanding and 3D reconstruction. Near the end of his doctoral studies, he conducted a research internship at Meta Reality Labs in Zurich, focusing on dynamic 4D scene reconstruction. Prior to his PhD, he was a full-time teaching assistant at the University of Belgrade, School of Electrical Engineering, in the Department of Signal Processing and Control Theory. He is also a long-standing member of the organizing committee of the PSIML summer school on AI in Serbia.
