• NEW! Please submit your reports for the 2nd programming assignment in one of the PDF, OpenOffice or Microsoft Word formats. You can submit your reports in the .zip archive. You do not need to hand in a hardcopy of your report.
• Tutorial slides for the 2nd programming assignment posted...
• There will be a tutorial session on Programming Assignment 2 and multi-threading concepts in general on Tuesday, Dec. 21 between 18:15-19:50 at Mithat Çoruh Auditorium.
• Programming Assignment 2 is posted. The due date is Dec. 27, 2010. The students can do the assignment either individually or in groups of two (you can choose your partner also from the other section).
• The CS421 midterm will be on Wednesday, Nov. 10 2010 at 17:30-19:40 in EB-103,104,201,203. Please read the exam rules carefully before coming to the exam.
  The exam will take place in the following classes of the engineering building.

  You need to bring a calculator to the midterm. Usage of cell phones etc. as a calculator or sharing of calculators will not be permited. Also note that you will not be able to leave the classroom before you finish and submit your midterm.
  For those students who will not be able take the midterm exam at 17:30 due to conflicts with other midterms/quizzes, the midterm will start at 15:30 in room EB-202 on the same day. Note that these students will not be permitted to leave the exam before 17:35 even if they submit their midterms.
• Homework #1 solutions are posted.
• For CS421 students who will not be able take the midterm exam on 17:30 (normal start time) due to their CS319 midterm, the midterm will start at 15:30 in room EB 202 in the same day Nov 10, 2010. Such students should first get an approval from the CS421 instructors to take the midterm at that time.
• Slides for Chapter 3 (with corrections on page 36) have been updated. Please make sure you have the latest version.
• Homework #1 is posted. The due date is Nov. 08, 2010. Please submit your solutions to your course instructor till 5:00 pm on the 8th of November. You must do the homework individually.
• (For those who have not attended the tutorial session) Please do not use the java.net.URL class as it provides abstractions for HTTP.

The students are required to do the assignment individually and each student is required to individually submit a written report for the assignment to the TAs. You may also leave your reports in the TAs' mail boxes at the department secretary's office.
