CS224 Problem Set Policy
Partners: CS224 Problem Sets (PS) should be done in groups of two (unless there are specific instructions to the contrary for a given problem set). Partnerships are voluntary, and may be ended at any time by the decision of either partner. Partners must be from the same section of the course--it is required that they be registered in the same section. No more than two people may form a problem set partnership (unless there are specific instructions to the contrary for a given problem set). Although partnerships are recommended as a way of learning to work cooperatively with others, students may choose to work alone, and are not required to take a partner. Partners may divide the work among themselves in any equitable way that both partners agree upon. However, both partners are responsible for all the work submitted. The partnership should submit only one paper, and both partners will receive the same grade based on that paper.
Problem Set Help: Problem set partners may consult with each other, with the TAs, with their instructor, with the book, and with the lecture notes/slides. But no consultation with other students (any other student besides the PS partner) is allowed, with the exception of the problem set partner. Also, PS solutions from previous years, or solutions downloaded from the Internet, etc are also not allowed. Any violation of these conditions, will result in Discipline Penalties (see Cheating, below).
Submission: The pages should all be stapled together in the upper left-hand corner. There should be no paper clip, folder or "poşet dosyas ı" with the homework, only a staple holding it together. Problem set papers should be given personally by one member of the group at the time of submission. Do not give your paper to someone who is part of another group, as this gives an open opportunity for copying and plagiarism! All groups should submit their problem set personally.
Lateness: No late problem set can be accepted after the papers have been collected, no matter what the reason for the lateness.
Grading: If the number of problems assigned on the problem set is small, all problems will be graded. Otherwise, some problems will be chosen and graded, others not graded. The correct answers to every assigned problem will be published and made available in the library reserve room. The grade earned by the problem set paper will be assigned to all members of the group.
Cheating: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Students who submit a problem set paper with their name(s) on it are testifying that the ideas and solutions on that paper are their own. Taking someone else's ideas or solution, no matter where it is obtained from, is plagiarism! Therefore, asking anyone other than one's own group member to "help" or give an answer, telling or showing an answer to students who are not problem set partners, copying or giving a paper to be copied, using solutions from the Internet, or other courses, or previous years' CS224 solutions, or CS224 Solved Problems, etc are all outside the boundary of allowed behavior. DO YOUR OWN PROBLEM SET!! Students who fail to adhere to this policy will be reported to the Engineering Faculty Discipline Commission.
