Academic Integrity Rules for CS342
- You are responsible from your homework and project. You should protect it.
- You are accountable from the actions of your project partner. If your project partner does something unethical in the project, you are responsible from that as well.
- Copying other people's code, solutions, or copying from any other sources, including online sources and generative AI tools, is strictly prohibited.
- Looking at code of another student is unacceptable behaviour.
- Looking at online code of the project (if available) from prior semesters or other universities is unacceptable.
- Using the code of the same project or a very similar project from internet or GenAI tools is unacceptable.
- Incorporating online code from prior semesters or other institutions is unacceptable.
- Searching online for specific implementations of project functions or parts is unacceptable.
- Using generative AI tools like ChatGPT for solving assignments directly is unacceptable.
- We will use automated systems (like Moss) for detecting academic misconduct. Moss performs a pairwise comparison of all assignment submissions with all others in the class, in prior semester classes, and various online repositories. The system reports any suspicious similarities. We will manually review any such similarities.
- We also ask questions about projects in quizzes and exams. We will compare the answers with the project performance.
- You should design and implement the solution by yourself so that you can learn and develop your skills. This is the only way for true learning. This is the goal with the projects.
Academic Honesty
Plagiarism is defined as the action of using or copying someone else's idea or work and pretending that you thought of it, or created it. Bilkent University requires that you be aware of the concept and dangers of plagiarism. In order to conform to international academic standards, you must respect the individual thoughts, ideas, and expressions of other authors in sources. In the exams, home-works, and projects in this course, occurrences of plagiarism will be seriously dealt with, leading to punishment through disciplinary procedures which call for a term or two terms of dispelling from the university.
