What is Computation?

(and is cognition that?)

Cognitive science and AI explain cognition as some kind of computation taking place in the brain. Several authors argue against the validity of this approach by claiming that cognition can not be a computation because everything (or nothing) is computation. So the question "Is cognition computation" gives rise to the question "What is computation?" and surprisingly, the second question too does not have a unique answer. Armagan Yavuz is going to give a brief overview of the special issue of Minds and Machines dedicated to this topic, which will be followed by an informal discussion.
