I am a Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering at Bilkent University. I also served as the Department Chair during 2021-2026.

I received my Ph.D. degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2001. Before joining Bilkent, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at UW during 1996-2001, and as a Research Scientist at Insightful Corporation in Seattle during 2001-2003. I spent 2013 as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington.

My current research interests include computer vision, statistical and structural pattern recognition, machine learning and data mining with applications to object recognition, image and video classification, remote sensing image analysis and medical imaging.
